Who is PSIRA?

PSIRA is the official organization responsible for setting the standards for any security business in South Africa – whether you want to offer security services or security products. This is determined by South African legislation: the Private Security Industry Regulation Act. If you want to operate any business within the private security industry, you have to register your business with PSIRA.

If you want to work as a security guard in the industry, you also have to get the appropriate security grading (there are various).

The Mandate of PSiRA derives from the Private Security Industry Regulation Act 56 of 2001. The primary objective of the Authority is to regulate the private security industry and to exercise effective control over the practice of the occupation of security service provider in the public and national interest and in the interest of the private security industry itself.

PSIRA grades security guards from A – E with grade E the entry-level grading for beginner security guards and grade A the highest grading for supervisory guards.
